Those Winter Sundays

Those Winter Sundays Sundays too my father got up early

and put his clothes on in the blueblack cold,

then with cracked hands that ached from labor in the weekday weather

made banked fires blaze.

No one ever thanked him.

I'd wake and hear the cold splintering, breaking.

When the rooms were warm, he'd call,

and slowly I would rise and dress,

fearing the chronic angers of that house,

Speaking indifferently to him,

who had driven out the cold and polished my good shoes as well.

What did I know,

what did I knowof love's austere and lonely offices?

Science with Plants

Liam plants garlic bulbs passed on to us from Mammy's garden. He also has a pineapple top rooting qutie nicely in a pot. I hope it survives the winter on the porch!

I have been tagged by Robynn

This my sixth picture from 2006, which is my sixth folder. All the Dunne kids are piled into a big armchair with Meghan and Shannon Bowe and their new boxer puppy. The Bowe's are part of our "attachment village". Mr and Mrs. B are Tim's godparents and Meghan is now Little E's GodMomma. Thanks Robynn, for taggin me and reminding me that it is time to squeeze in a Bowe Day.

Nucular pasgetti

Don't get me wrong, I DO love Palin, but her pronunciation of the word "nuclear" makes me itch! At one point, she said "nucular" about ten times. As I writhed in pain on the couch, Tim (13) spouted:

Pistacular! Palin's gonna have nucular pasgetti for brefkast tomorrow!

Saint Therese Little Flower

Our pretty rose-pink cupcakes ....before Ginny helped herself to two of them.......and AFTER Eamon dumped half of them upside down on the floor!
