Pondering Home Learning

As I read the posts at UnschoolingCatholics yahoo group, I am pondering just exactly what KIND of homeschooling is it that we are practicing here at BucketOGlee. Do I need to define it in words? Perhaps pictures would be better? OR lists of books? Hmmm....I am learning to ponder and pray about these things in a way I could not have done before. Before what? Before my encounter with Hold On to Your Kids, Jill, Robynn, and Attachment Parenting.

Wow, I haven't seen Rifles for Watie in 40 years. Here's a pointless memory on that.

In 1970 at the minor seminary I attended the English teacher had my class vote on its favoriite book of the year, i.e., any book, not just a book read in class. One guy had read Rifles, and recommended it to his friend who also read it. The voting was 18 votes for 18 different books....and two votes for Rifles for Watie, which won the contest.

Actually that's a remarkable selection of books I know of/ have read.

Killer Angels was memorable. Michael Shaara's son Jeff writes similar books. His series on the Revolution and Civil war were likewise vivid.

Killer and Five Aprils gave their names to a couple of Civil war games, btw:
